10/10 special guest: Binka le Breton, author of Where the Road Ends:
A Home in the Brazilian Rainforest (our 10/06 Book Club selection).
From Binka: "I'd like to look at the questions of why we plunge into
another culture. What do we envision? Bridges of understanding? Exchange of
knowledge? Transfer of technology? Making the world a better place, one
village/child/school/healthpost/agricultural project at a time?
How do we cope with cultural differences, expectations met and unmet? Who
benefits and how do we know it? How could we do it different? Better?
25 minutes max on a Midlife Alternative to the Peace Corps, and then open
it up for discussion. Should be fun!"
