Program on Peace Corps
History.
Anthropologist Robert Textor was present at Peace Corps' creation in 1960
and is credited with making the case to the political leaders that
Volunteers be trained in language and cultural skills. He developed the
first training program for the very first group of Volunteers. Bob will
share the fascinating stories of the early days and what it was like to
participate as Peace Corps was being created very fast and by people who had
almost no experience outside of the United States. Bob is an emeritus
professor of anthropology from Stanford University. He is also the
pioneering founder of Ethnographic Futures Research and the editor of
Cultural Frontiers of the Peace Corps, MIT Press 1966.
